Abstract
Two species of family Niphargidae (Crustacea, Amphipoda) are studied from the subterranean waters of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovenia. The new species, Niphargus (Orniphargus) jasminkoi, sp. nov., is described and figured from the subterranean waters of Hrustovača Cave, Hrustovo, Sanski Most (Bosnia & Herzegovina). This species belongs to the subgenus Orniphargus S. Karaman, 1950, morphologically very close to species Niphargus (Orniphargus) pachytelson Sket, 1960, N. (Orniphargus) arbiter G. Karaman,1984 and N. (Orniphargus) salonitanus S. Karaman, 1950.
The species Niphargus (Niphargus) stygius (Schiödte, 1847), known from various localities, is redescribed from Lubniška jama-Cave near Lubnica, Škofja Loka reg., Slovenia, and taxonomic characters of this species regarding similar species N. (Niphargus) valvasori S. Karaman 1952, are discussed. The nominal subgenus Niphargus Schiödte, 1849 with typus subgeneris Gammarus stygius Schiödte, 1847, is cited.
